CLOSURE FAST ABLATION
Perfomed on an outpatient basis, the procedure uses ultrasound to position a tiny catheter powered by radio-frequency energy to remove superficial, deep and perforator veins through a small opening in the skin. Patients can typically resume normal activities within the next day.
SCLEROTHERAPY
A simple injection procedure using a micro-needle to treat spider veins and larger veins, usually with little discomfort. Patients are encouraged to walk only 24 hours after the procedure.
MINIPHLEBECTOMY
A procedure that can be used on small and large veins. Pinpoint holes are made with a small needle and segments of the vein can be removed using specialized instruments under local anesthetic with minimal downtime.
LIGATION
Some problems, such as large vericose veins, may call for this surgical procedure in which the connections between the damaged veins and the normal vein systems are interrupted. Usually done under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting, the procedure is often performed in combination with other procedures and may cause the patient bruising and feeling uncomfortable for up to three weeks following.

A leading general and colon surgeon in the Springfield area for almost 40 years, Dr. John Crighton received his medical training at the University of Missouri Medical School and completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He specializes in general surgery with a focus in breast surgical oncology, colon, gallbladder and hernia surgeries.
Over Dr. Crighton's remarkable career, his highly skilled hands have touched the lives of many patients through the years. He continues to lead in surgical advancements for his patients by offering the new breast cancer treatment option MammoSite®, a five-day targeted radiation therapy with minimal side effects. He has also served as Trauma Director at Cox Health Systems hospital.

Coming from a family of physicians, Dr. Chapman Olive grew up in the Ozarks and received his medical training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of California - San Francisco. He specializes in general and laparoscopic sugery, and in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Olive has been published for his work in a vascular research study.
Having been in practice for 20 years, Dr. Olive has served as the Chief of Surgery for one of the area's leading hospitals. He too provides the progressive Mammosite® radiation treatment options for his patients.

A leading vascular and general surgeon, Dr. Charles Dunn received his medical training at Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He specializes in the treatment of varicose veins and vascular conditions.
A practicing surgeon since 1990, Dr. Dunn was the Director of the Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Cox Health Systems. Currently, he is the Director of the COD's internationally accredited vascular lab. The vascular lab is able to offer seamless same-day vascular sevices to our paitents.
BRIAN D. BIGGERS, MD

The newest member of the COD surgical team, Dr. Brian Biggers received his medical training at the University of Missouri Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City Mo. Dr. Biggers continued highly specialized training in breast surgical oncology with his completion of a fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Being Springfield's only fellowship-trained physician in breast surgical oncology, Dr. Biggers is able to aggressively diagnose and treat with a variety of surgical and non-surgical options that were not available to breast cancer patients until recently. Dr. Biggers has participated in many medical research projects, and has published studies in breast care and laparoscopic hernia repair.

Vascular Services

Our staff of vascular specialists has extensive experience in treating varicose veins, reticular veins, spider veins and other unsightly, many times very painful venous diseases.
All new patients see a physician for evaluation, which may include Doppler ultrasound and ultrasonic imaging to get a clearer picture of the problem. The physician will outline an individual course of treatment for each patient, and provide an estimate for the cost for treatment. Many vascular services may be covered by medical insurance.
